9 Ways to Make Your Perfume Last All Day

Even the finest extrait can underperform if it is applied badly. These nine habits will get hours more wear from every bottle you own.

Fragrance guides & notes

Longevity is only half the formula. The other half is technique. These are the habits that separate a fragrance that disappears by noon from one that is still there when you get home.

  • Moisturise first. Fragrance clings to hydrated skin and evaporates quickly from dry skin.
  • Apply immediately after a shower, while pores are open and skin is warm.
  • Target pulse points: wrists, neck, inner elbows, behind the knees.
  • Never rub. Rubbing generates heat and breaks down the top notes.
  • Spray from 15–20cm so the mist distributes evenly.
  • Spray a little on clothing, a scarf or a jacket lining for a slow release.
  • Layer with an unscented moisturiser or a matching body oil to anchor the base.
  • Keep a tester in your bag for a discreet mid-day top-up.
  • Store bottles cool, dark and upright. Heat and light degrade a fragrance over time.

The one mistake almost everyone makes

Rubbing your wrists together after spraying. It feels natural, but the friction and heat accelerate evaporation and muddle the composition. Spray and leave it alone.

Because every Dark Notes fragrance is an extrait de parfum, these habits are amplified: a little goes a long way, and the base notes stay with you for hours.
